John M. Lockhart, III -
President
John is an attorney with the Presutti Law Office in Geneseo and
is an Assistant Livingston County Public Defender specializing in
criminal defense. He has lived in the Geneseo and Avon communities
for many years and is active in the community as a board member of the, Geneseo Foundation, Noyes Memorial Hospital,
and Livingston County Community Services.
He received his Bachelor's
degree in History from the U. of R. and received his law
degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Oliver Chanler -
Vice-President
Oliver worked in Washington, D.C. as a broadcast journalist from 1979 to 1997. Oliver got his start in journalism working at the Livingston Republican newspaper in Geneseo. From there, Oliver worked on Voice of America, WGBH Channel 5, Diane Rehm, and National Public Radio.
Oliver returned to Geneseo at the end of 1997. He returned to live on his family's property at Fall Brook. This property has been in his family for three generations, dating back to the early twentieth century when Oliver's grandparent moved to Geneseo.
Oliver began planting trees on this property in 1997 and continues to do so to this day. His main passion is to preserve the open space and rural ambiance of the Genesee Valley and surrounding countryside. Thanks to the Chanler family, Fall Brook is now protected by a conservation easement held by GVC.

Martin Miskell -
Treasurer
A graduate of SUNY Geneseo and the Rochester Institute of Technology Martin is now the Associate Executive Director/CFO of Livingston-Wyoming ARC.
He also serves on the ARC Foundation Board and on the board at the Teresa House in Geneseo.
Martin lives with his wife and children in the Village of Geneseo.

Sally W. Wood-
Secretary
Sally grew up in Geneseo and loves the openness of the Valley and the great community spirit of the area. "I lived and worked in a lot of places around the world for about 35 years, but am so happy to be back here."
She was a founding board member of GVC in 1990, and is delighted with the ongoing results.
Sally also sat on the board of APOG (Association for the Preservation of Geneseo), and currently sits on the board of the Community Players.
She spends time riding horses, skiing, and walking her basset hounds.

Neil Bliss
Neil was born New York City in 1936 and has spent time working at Yosemite National Park and for the New York Herald Tribune.
Most of Neil’s early summers were spent in Montana and the Nunda area of Upstate NY. In 2002, Neil and his wife Angela moved to Hunt, where Neil works as a commodity trader.
His hobbies include photography, hockey and exploring the countryside with Angela. Having witnessed the remarkable development of Locust Valley, Neil has a deep appreciation of and desire for land conservation, especially private landowner conservation easements.

Louis D'Amanda
A retired trial lawyer, Louis is a founding board member of GVC who served as Secretary for fifteen years. Louis also serves on the Board of Governors of the Genesee Valley Hunt.
Louis's private conservation efforts include incorporated a family owned island in Upper Saranac Lake, N.Y. with a Forever Wild easement.
Louis lives off a large vegetable garden in his back yard, of which his wife "is the technician and I am the grunt."

A lifelong resident of Geneseo, John retired in 2002 after 30 years as an independent insurance agent.
John is a founding board member who has served as both Vice-President and President.

Kristina Hannam
Kristi is an Associate Professor of Biology at SUNY-Geneseo. Her research area is in the behavioral ecology of birds, and she has expertise in the fields of ecology and conservation biology. She has worked on research projects in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida, Nevada and New York.
Since her arrival at the college in fall 2001, Kristi has conducted research on House Wrens on the GVC protected research reserve and on the GVC owned Island Preserve with Geneseo student research assistants. They have presented the results of their research at meetings in Geneseo, Albany, Boston, and Quebec.
Kristi also serves on the Research Committee for the Braddock Bay Bird Observatory. In her free time she enjoys hiking, camping, bird watching and gardening. Kristi is a resident of Rochester, NY.

Beth Anne Harris
Beth obtained a degree in Veterinary Technology in 1986, later proceeding on to neurobiology at the U. of R. For the past ten years she has worked as a Paramedic in Monroe and Livingston Counties. With her husband Stirlin, Beth lives on their Hideaway Farm in Geneseo where she breeds, trains and competes Connemara and Connemara half breeds.
This life has made Beth very appreciative of the conserved land on which they live and that which surrounds them. Her concern about open space and the preservation of farm lands for future generations has led Beth to participate in the Genesee Valley Conservancy and more recently, as a board member.

Gregg Hartvigsen
Gregg
received his Ph.D. in biology from Syracuse University in 1995 after which he was a postdoctoral research fellow at Princeton University before arriving in Geneseo in 1998.
Gregg is an associate professor of biology at SUNY Geneseo and specializes in plant and forest ecology.
His current interests include using mathematical and statistical methods to quantify ecological patterns in a variety of systems ranging from plant communities to human influenza.
In addition to teaching, Gregg directs the college’s Roemer Arboretum and serves as manager of the SUNY Geneseo/Genesee Valley Conservancy Research Reserve.
He lives in the Village of Geneseo with his wife and children.

Ted Kinsey
A native of Rhode Island, Ted has lived in the Rochester/Geneseo area since coming to the U. of R. in 1955 to pursue his Ph.D in Physics.
Now retired, after 30+ years at SUNY Geneseo he spends much of his time at the Genesee Country Museum in a variety of roles.
A 1993 easement donor, Ted has been a board member for many years, including terms as Vice-President.

William W. Lloyd
Billy is a Vice President with Merrill Lynch in Rochester and has worked there since 1989.
Married with 4 children, Billy feels very fortunate to live on the Nations Road in Geneseo, surrounded by
land protected by easements donated to the Genesee Valley Conservancy.
Billy has served as President of GVC's board.
Billy also serves on the board of the Harley School
in Rochester and has served on the boards of the Association for the Preservation of Geneseo (APOG) and
Saint Agnes School in Avon.

Myrtle Merritt
Native Iowan and graduate of Northern Iowa University and the University of Iowa. A retired Distinguished Service Professor of SUNY Geneseo after 30 years of service.
Member of the Geneseo Foundation Board, President of the Blue Knights Round Table, Treasurer of the Greater Rochester Are Branch of the American Assn. for Univ. Women, active in APOG, Geneseo Garden Club, Ecumenical Coalition for Peace, Friends of Music and the Geneseo United Methodist Church.
Hobbies include golfing, fishing, gardening, needlepoint and reading.

Gail McGuire
Having living in and enjoyed the beauty and recreational opportunities of the Genesee Valley for 40+ years, it is a pleasure for Gail to now be on the board of GVC.
A retired biology teacher, Gail views the Genesee river valley as a unique ecosystem to be preserved.

Craig Phelps
Craig is the owner/operator of Edgewood Farms in Groveland. The operation includes field crops, vegetables, and dairy and beef production. Craig has worked to ensure the long term viability of the land by using conservation tillage, tiling and strip cropping.
Craig and his wife Amy have two girls (Ellen and Heidi) and two boys (Clayton and Blake).
Craig holds a BS from Cornell University and spent a year studying at the University of Edinburough in Scotland.

Richard Sheflin
Dick recently retired from the Livingston County Real Property Tax Department where we had worked for the past 30 years and served as the director for the past 25 years.
Dick's educational background is in land surveying, a field he still works part time in. Dick is an avid sportsman and spends much of his time hunting and tracking, including time at the A-On-Do-Wa-Nah sportsman's club: protected by GVC in 2004.
Dick and his wife Cindy are lifelong residents of Livingston County and have three sons.

Joyce Wechsler
Joyce was born and raised in the NYC area. A graduate from New York University, she taught health and physical education at a junior high and at Briar Cliff College.
In 1969 Joyce accepted a position at SUNY Geneseo and fell in love with the Genesee Valley. In 1998 she retired as an associate professor from the School of Education.
Joyce now spends her time doing volunteer work.
