Geneseo Trio Champions Crowned (Again)
The 2017 Geneseo Trio series of road races has again resulted in the crowning of Paul Rellstab and Catherine Staley. Each runner finished first place at all three 5k races: Oak Tree 5k, Friday Knight 5k, and Ramon Rocha 5k, making for a clean sweep.
Paul and Catherine are both Geneseo residents. The Geneseo Trio requires runners to complete all three Geneseo 5ks, their total combined time being their series time. Runners of the Oak Tree Half Marathon have their average pace used to for their Oak Tree 5k time.
On the male side, Paul Rellstab won his second Geneseo Trio title in a time of 53:13 while Catherine Staley also won her second Geneseo Trio title in 1:00:01, setting a new female course record for the series. This is the first new course record set for females since the Trio series was first run in 2009.
The Geneseo Trio is sponsored by GioVanna’s Pizza and Pasta and benefits the Genesee Valley Conservancy, SUNY Geneseo Cross Country Teams, and the ARC of Livingston-Wyoming. Participants register and complete the Oak Tree 5K, Friday Knight 5, and Ramon Rocha 5K and their times are added together for a series total. The series of races was formed in 2009 to encourage community members to maintain a regularly and ongoing fitness schedule, allowing them to complete these three 5k races that span across the fall each year.
