Half Marathon Passes Research Reserve
The Oak Tree Half Marathon course passes the Research Reserve, a 460acre property on Nations Road that hosts a partnership between the private landowner, SUNY Geneseo, and Genesee Valley Conservancy. This property is opened to SUNY Geneseo faculty and students to conduct research and class projects throughout the year.
From forest ecology to stream biology and geology this property hosts a wide variety of educational uses for various Geneseo classes. The property was also permanently protected by the landowner and Genesee Valley Conservancy in 2000, ensuring the several miles of creek, gullies, mature forests, and grassland fields remain thriving locations for wildlife to live in addition to the educational opportunities it provides.
Thanks to the many local sponsors of the Oak Tree, 100% of race entry fees support programs like the Research Reserve; protecting important landscapes and ensuring the next generation has an appreciation for and understanding of the importance these lands provide for the community.
