A pair of SUNY Geneseo graduates captured their respective races at the Oak Tree Half Marathon and 5K event held last Sunday in Geneseo.
Bobby Henchen, also a Geneseo Central graduate captured the 5K race, while collegiate running partner and Mount Morris graduate Tim Chichester won the 13.1 mile half marathon race.
Henchen's winning time of 15:49 was 13 seconds faster than runner-up Kevin Montgomery, of Canada. Geneseo Central School students Gabe Rodriguez, a junior, was third in 16:37, while brother Devon Rodriguez, a senior, was fourth in 16:43. Bill Buckenmeyer, Geneseo new cross-country coach, was fifth in 5:36.
Impressively, Perry l4-year-old Mitchell Cicero placed seventh with a time of 18:40.
Kaitlin Coopman, of Toronto, won the women's race with a time of 19:39, while Geneseo Central senior Casey Emerson was second in 20:41.
Chichester's winning time of 1:09.09 easily won the half marathon as he ousted Scottsville's Matt Roberts (1:20.56) and Rochester's Eric Bigenwald (1:21.36).
Conesus resident Laura Anderson captured the women's race with a winning time of 1:36:04 while Erin Bonthron, of Geneseo was second in 1:39:40.
There were 330 entries in the 5K and 275 runners in the half marathon.
