Bequest

Continue to use property and assets during your lifetime, and direct your estate to support local conservation.

How to Give a Bequest in Your Will

Speak to an attorney to include your desired gift (cash, property, a percentage of your estate) to Genesee Valley Conservancy, Inc.  The following language may be useful:

For a general gift to support the Conservancy as a whole:

“I devise and bequeath to Genesee Valley Conservancy, Inc. federal ID #23-3061147, [the sum, percentage, or property to be gifted], which shall be used for such purposes as the Board of Directors may determine.”

For a gift restricted to a specific purpose of the Conservancy:

“I devise and bequeath to Genesee Valley Conservancy, Inc. federal ID #23-3061147, [the sum, percentage, or property to be gifted], which shall be placed in the [select fund below].”

  • Stewardship Fund (supports our stewardship staff to maintain and manage our growing conservation obligations of easements and preserves)

  • Legal Defense Fund (ensures our conservation work lasts in perpetuity)

  • Acquisitions Fund (used to purchase high priority conservation lands)

  • Preserve Maintenance Fund (supports maintenance of our nature preserves)

Restricted Gifts

If making a restricted gift not identified above, please contact us to ensure we can meet your wishes.

Please consider also adding this language in your will when making a restricted gift:

“If, in the judgment of the Board of Directors of Genesee Valley Conservancy, Inc., it is impossible to use this bequest to accomplish the specific purposes of this bequest, Genesee Valley Conservancy, Inc. may use the income and principal of this gift for such purpose or purposes as the Board of Directors determines is most closely related to the restricted purpose of my bequest.”

Please notify us when arranging your Will to ensure we can accept and use the gift as intended and thank you during your lifetime.
