Genesee Valley Conservancy Receives State Funding to Protect Farmland

The farms of the Genesee Valley feed our communities, sustain local livelihoods, and shape the landscape we call home. Nearly $22 million in new state funding awarded to Genesee Valley Conservancy will help protect that agricultural legacy for generations to come.

The funding will support the protection of 14 farms spanning approximately 9,000 acres across 4 counties and 16 towns in our region.

The local investment is part of the Farmland Protection Implementation Grants announced by Governor Kathy Hochul on October 20 to protect agricultural land on 43 farms across New York. The announcement took place at Heer Farm in Onondaga County, a farm with more than a century of agricultural history.

As New York’s Farmland Protection program marks its 30th anniversary, this investment continues the mission to protect productive soils and keep farmland available for agriculture. In the Genesee Valley, it will help ensure that the land supporting today’s farms remains available to future generations of farmers.
