Conservancy Welcomes First Director of Communication
Genesee Valley Conservancy has named Derek Schrank of Rochester as its first Director of Communication, a newly created role that will oversee the organization's outreach and communication with supporters and the public. In this position, Derek will work with each department to establish and maintain consistent branding while leading efforts to communicate the Conservancy's work.
"It's a privilege to join the Conservancy at a time when momentum and progress is strong for protecting the habitat, open space, and farmland of the Genesee Valley region. I'm looking forward to building on that momentum and helping more people across the area discover and connect with the important work being done here,” Schrank said. “There's a real opportunity to grow the Conservancy's visibility and make sure this organization's story reaches the people who care most about this land."
Derek brings nearly five years of experience in nonprofit communications leadership to the role. He studied at SUNY Geneseo before earning his bachelor’s degree in communication from Houghton University, two institutions rooted in the very region the Conservancy serves.
A lifelong resident of the Rochester region, he enjoys traveling, photography, and hiking, interests that reflect a deep appreciation for the natural world that will serve him well in his role.
