Geographic Information System Intern: Sierra Doody
My name is Sierra Doody and I am a junior Geography and Sustainability Studies double major at SUNY Geneseo from Webster, New York.
I am also a member of the Geneseo’s Cross Country and Track and Field teams.
Throughout my time with Genesee Valley Conservancy, I have been able to use skills I’ve learned in the classroom in real world applications. I’ve helped restructure the Conservancy’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping data catalog, worked on creating soil quality maps, analyzed active agriculture land on farmland parcels, and completed forest mapping for grant assistance programs.
However, my semester with the Conservancy has meant more than GIS skills: I have had the opportunity to learn about the kind of work that goes into the organization and into conserving land, and hope to carry that knowledge into my future career in a GIS/planning related field.
The work Sierra contributed and the skills she learned were funded by a $3,000 donation from Patti LaVigne.
If you would like to support a future intern, please reach out to John at 585-243-2190.
