Grant to Help Fund Pollinator Habitat at Island Preserve
A grant has been awarded to the Conservancy by the New York Community Trust to support the creation of native pollinator habitat on the Island Preserve in Geneseo.
This preserve was expanded with a gift of 17 acres in 2021 and a trailhead access parcel on Steeplechase Drive in 2024.
The Conservancy has been developing plans on how to establish these new sections with consideration to the up front costs as well as the long term management and maintenance that would be required.
This grant award will help the Conservancy establish native pollinator habitat on the expansion fields through funding field preparation, planting, and establishment maintenance. The funding will also support the planting of the Steeplechase trailhead with native friendly species along with community educational and outreach events to promote the benefits of using native plants for our local wildlife and pollinators.
The award of $105,000 will provide significant support to efforts at this preserve.
